About Chris

Welcome to my practice

I specialise in minimally invasive techniques to treat a wide range of spinal conditions, including slipped discs, pinched nerves and sciatica.

Every patient and every condition is different. That’s why I believe in taking time to listen and working together to decide the best course of treatment. Patients value my commitment to relieving pain, restoring function, and my proven track record of achieving lasting results.
Mr Chris Kellett
Consultant Spinal Neurosurgeon
FRCS (SN)

Your spine specialist

Chris was drawn to the nervous system early in his medical training, struck by its beauty and complexity. His sporting background had already given him a deep regard for spinal biomechanics, and the two passions converged naturally – pointing him toward a career in spinal surgery.

Having built his expertise across leading hospitals throughout the UK, Chris now serves as a Consultant Neurological and Complex Spinal Surgeon at Leeds General Infirmary, helping patients relieve pain, restore function and regain confidence in their movement.

He brings extensive experience across spinal surgery, specialising in microdiscectomy, nerve root decompression, and minimally invasive techniques that help patients recover faster.

Expert by experience

With over 20 years of experience, Chris is recognised as one of the region's leading fellowship-trained spinal surgeons. His fellowship in Neurological and Complex Spinal Surgery took him to some of the UK's most prestigious hospitals, where he trained under world-class surgeons and developed a blend of neurosurgical and orthopaedic expertise – giving him the breadth to treat a wide range of complex spinal conditions.

Today, he runs one of the busiest spinal practices in the region, performing over 300 procedures a year, with a caseload that includes many advanced and specialised operations.
  • The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, London
  • Atkinson Morley Department of Neurosurgery, London
  • The Hugh Cairns Neurosurgical Department, The Royal London Hospital
  • King’s College Hospital, London
  • Frenchay Hospital, Bristol
He is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons, the Society of British Neurological Surgeons and the British Association of Spinal Surgeons.

Outside his practice, Chris is also:
  • Developing a regional network to support adult patients living with spina bifida
  • Involved in clinical research into spinal cord injury
  • Regularly attending conferences to stay at the forefront of spinal surgery and minimally invasive techniques
  • Actively involved in education and training of neurosurgeons and orthopedic spinal surgeons

Chris has introduced a number of advanced techniques to Leeds, including day-case minimally invasive lumbar fusion, awake spinal surgery, single-position complex cervical 360° reconstruction, and specialised procedures for complex Tarlov cysts.

Through his full-time NHS practice, complex cases are discussed within a multidisciplinary team to ensure patients receive the safest, more effective treatment.

As of 2026 Chris has performed well in excess of 5,000 operations on the spine

NHS data shows that Chris sees far more patients than the typical spinal surgeon, which speaks to the trust placed in him for complex and challenging cases. Better still, despite tackling some of the most complex cases around, his patients consistently go home sooner and with fewer complications than the national average.

Keeping Yorkshire standing tall

After a career that took him around the country, Chris has returned home to his northern roots, settling in Roundhay – just five minutes from Leeds Spire Hospital. A former Yorkshire cricketer, his connection to Leeds runs deep, and that love of sport has given him a profound appreciation for just how dynamic the spine truly is. Outside of work, he can still be found playing cricket and spending quality time with his family.
